Jani-King, based in the Dallas, Texas area, started selling master franchises in 1981. After experiencing domestic success, Jani-King entered the international arena when Canada became its first international master franchise in 1986. To date, Jani-King of Canada has granted 13 master franchises in Canada.

Under the Jani-King master franchise system, the master franchise investor is granted an exclusive 10-year agreement (renewable for 50 years total) to operate Jani-King's proven program in a defined territory. The master franchisee then establishes a regional support office in the territory that grants licenses to individual Jani-King unit franchises, train the unit franchisees, and secure cleaning contracts to be serviced by them and in turn shares in the revenue stream generated by their region.
